On July 1st, 2010, a lecture "The Gay State" was delivered by Dr. Viktor Zimmermann at the University of Bonn, following an invitation by the universitie's LGBT students association.
The central thesis of the talk was that Gays and Lesbians are a people sui generis and now is the time to install our own government. The scenario for the formation of the Gay and Lesbian state was explained step-by-step with regard to the international law, particularly in the light of the very interesting legal precedents "Vatican state" and the "Order of Malta." The issues of sovereignty, exterritoriality and the territorial vs personal principle of state organization were reflected.
The Gay and Lesbian state, organized along the lines of the modern city-states and the medieval city republics, could become both a retreat for Gay and Lesbian refugees from around the world, and a center of Gay and Lesbian culture and politics.
After the lecture a lively discussion with about 20 attending students took place, in which all questions and objections were answered in detail.
The Foundation thanks the LGBT students association for the invitation, the warm welcome and the very interesting discussions.
